“Why We Crave Horror Movies”
One of the king’s of horror stories and movies, Stephen King wrote this article, “Why We Crave Horror Movies.” In this article he explains why people today love to watch and give ourselves nightmares. He stated that everyone is mentally ill in our own way, but hide it better than those individuals that have been placed insane asylums. King also using another critic’s thoughts about horror films “they have become today’s form of public lynching, and the lyncher could be anyone and everyone.”
Even though Stephen King uses many different examples of evidence to support his theory that everyone is mentally ill and insane. As well as the reasons why today’s society chooses to continue to watch horror movies to feed their mental illness. Since Stephen King is so well known for written and making such graphic and extreme horror movies. He is an excellent source for information on why he believes everyone maybe mentally ill, but just have not been diagnosed. Since King uses the fact that many people today tell jokes of about a truckload of dead babies versus a truckload of bowling balls. As well as using the example of thoughts that may go through our heads when we were little about are siblings and what we might have wanted to do instead of giving them a hug and a kiss.
However, I do not feel that he has strong logic about his reasoning behind his evidence. I don’t believe you can take a small group of people who chooses to watch horror movies, pronounce them mentally ill, than say everyone in society is the exact same. No, I feel that people today have grown out the illness that King says we have. Especially, thoughts we may have had when we were children, but as we grow up those thoughts and emotions go away. “When I was a child, I talked like a child; I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.” 1Corinthians 13:11 NIV
